Congratulations on your new house with a pool.

The built-in sand filter system has a pressure gauge that indicates the working pressure. If dirt collects in the sand filter, the operating pressure increases. If the pressure gauge exceeds 0.45 bar or 6.5 PSI (yellow and red area) or the water flow slows down, the sand filter system should be cleaned. To do this, first clean the sieve in the skimmer of coarse dirt, leaves and insects.

To clean the sand filter, it is necessary to backflush it for several minutes. After that, it is necessary to flush it for about a minute to smooth the sand bed again. In principle, it is advisable to backflush the filter every 3–4 weeks, depending on how much it is used and the season. How exactly you should backwash and rinse a sand filter system is summarised here:

‘’ Step 1: Always switch off the pump before each changeover. Then push the control valve lever down from the normal position for filtering/cleaning and turn it clockwise to the position for rinsing/backwashing.

Step 2: Connect the power supply and switch on the pump for the sand filter system. The water will now be pumped down through the collector hub, up through the sand bed and out through the drain. Now wait 1-2 minutes or until the water is clear. (Viewing window)

’‘Step 3: Switch off the pump and turn the control valve clockwise to the rinse function.

Step 4: Turn on the pump and let it run for about 1 minute. Again, the water is flushed out through the drain.

Step 5: Turn off the pump. Set the controller back to Filter/Clean (normal operation).

Step 6: The process has now removed water from your pool. Therefore, top up the pool water if necessary. However, be sure to switch off the sand filter when the water level approaches the lower edge of the skimmer to avoid sucking in air.

Important: If you have red rain, typical of Mallorca’s fine red sand on the pool floor, it is recommended not to carry out any of the above cleaning, but to vacuum it up immediately, as these dust particles are too small for most sand filters.

To do this, switch off the pump and set the controller to Empty or Waste. Then remove the air from the hose and connect the hose to the vacuum cleaner in the skimmer or to the separate vacuum cleaner connection. Now switch on the pump and switch it off again immediately after vacuuming. This ensures that the vacuumed dust is removed immediately and does not initially contaminate the filter. Then switch back to Filter (normal operation).

Notes:

  • Always switch off the pump before changing any settings.
  • To switch the pump on and off manually, use the ‘M’ position for manual. Then set the switch back to the ‘R’ position for the timer.
  • To better remove leaves or insects, always set the skimmer to ‘open’ and the floor suction to ‘half open’.
  • If you are going to be away for a long period of time and are unable to tend to the pool, close the skimmer and only set it to ‘bottom’ so that the pump does not run dry and suck in air. This can damage the pump because the cooling and lubrication provided by the water is no longer present.
Setting Meaning
CLOSED

(if available)

In this setting, no water can flow through the sand filter system. The sand filter pump must remain switched off. This setting is used for winter storage of the pool pump.

Use this setting to open the sand filter boiler. If you add further accessories (e.g. a heat pump), you should also use this setting.

FILTER The normal state of the sand filter pump. In this setting, the pool water is directed into the sand filter, cleaned and returned to the frame pool.
DRAIN/WASTE/EMPTY In this setting, the pool is emptied. The sand filter pump transports the pool water directly to the waste water connection.
CIRCULATE In this setting, the pool water is circulated. However, it is not cleaned. This setting helps, for example, if you want to distribute pool cleaning agents in the pool water.
RINSING/BACKWASH This setting cleans the filter sand. The pool water is flushed ‘backwards’ through the sand filter system, thus transporting dirt towards the waste water valve.
RINSING/RE-RINSING After the backwashing, a re-rinsing must be carried out so that the swirled up grains of sand/filter glass can settle again at the bottom of the filter.
